Issue 104 (May/June/July - 2019)
Issue 104 of the Turbo Diesel Register was mailed from the printer on May 1, 2019.
The assignment for Issue 104 was given prior to Ram’s 2019 truck announcements in January. Our writers were asked to share some of their “bucket list” destinations. TDR writer Mark Barnes’ coverage
of the Lane Motor Museum in Issue 103 prompted the assignment.
In Issue 104, you will see my story about a Mecum Auction destination trip.
Other writers make mention of interesting trips and places. But Ram’s introduction of the 2019 Heavy Duty truck and its 400 horsepower/1000 torque took center stage in the magazine.
Together with Ram’s 2019 HD announcement, we have lots to share with you:
- “10 Back” tells you about automatic transmissions, exhaust brakes, fuel and lube additives, and NV5600 transmissions.
- “Member to Member” gives you some common-sense spring-cleaning tips.
- The usual fix-this, repair-that stories are found in the “Generations” area.
- The normal upfit evaluation and insight articles from the staff of TDR writers.
Finally, it is May, and it is time to get excited about “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” the Indy 500. Using pages from
Clessie Cummins’ book, “My Days with the Diesel,” we will take a trip back in time to 1952 and the Cummins Diesel Special, #28 Indianapolis 500 race car. This was a historic time for Cummins and the
development of turbochargers. Together with our TDR article, we have a video from the Cummins archives that talks about the #28 car.
The video is historic.
The video is old school.
The video is cool.
Check it out at our website, front page news. Here is a link:

I hope you enjoy Issue 104 of the TDR. Thank you for your support. Perhaps we’ll have a chance to meet at the TDR Nationals in June. Be there or be square.
